STATEMENT
Rather than visual work I use my studio at Red Wire for music production.
When the means of creating and recording music are more compact and accessible than ever, it makes sense to me to take this process out of the confines of my bedroom and into a driven studio environment. By working alone to explore different avenues that might lead to something that works for me aesthetically, I suppose my approach is more comparable to visual artist than a guy in a band.
In my current project 'Blanket' I've been trying to combine elements of electronica - intricate programmed beats and warm synthesizer tones - with the loose, distorted guitar playing of 80s and 90s alt rock within the simple verse/chorus/verse structure of typical pop songs. I see making heartfelt pop music as a decent if optimistic aspiration. The first gig for this project was at A Foundation gallery during the Long Night of the Liverpool Biennial 2010 and my work also featured on the compilation 'Ancient Fires' released on limited edition cassette tape and digital download by Stadt Moers Records in September 2011.
