For the opening exhibition of
the 2008 Liverpool Biennial, Red Wire presented 'North by North-West'- an exhibition of artworks created by the two artist groups Soup
and Peripheral. The two groups are made up of employees of Tate
Liverpool and The Henry Moore Institute, Leeds respectively.

The Soup collective was born in
2000, established by various employees of Tate Liverpool. A constantly
shifting membership ensures that Soup's artistic practice and ideals
are ever evolving, morphing into new styles, genres and attitudes with
the flux of Artists involved in each project. Peripheral was
founded in 2005 with
the intention of curating exhibitions of
their current work and focusing on their ongoing practice and agendas.
After
a chance meeting that brought the two groups together a friendly,
competitive rivalry has arose. This has instigated the project North By
North West, an ambitious and extensive run of exhibitions and events
which includes 60 Artists and 35 venues over two cities and is designed
to explore the process of artistic collaboration on a large scale.
