artists statement

I go by the pseudonym; me presents. I recycle imagery and text based on the idea of recycling thoughts and memories, based on my beliefs that memories are formed, can be altered and therefore recycled. I wouldn't class the work of me presents as any particular type of genre as I work using a wide choice of methods and mediums from printing, painting, drawing, writing and bookmaking; usually in the most cost effective ways. I also don't feel I have any specific influences as I see myself as being inspired by everything around me, and every moment I experience. The basis of me presents is to visually express and display my own opinions and perceptions, and at the same time allowing viewers to come to their own conclusion of what they are being shown. I like to to work with and create feelings, often re-using these recycled images and phrases. Consistently filtering through my workbooks to extract certain aspects, along with finding and collecting new pieces of material, in order to re-create new visual imagery with new meanings. My work processes are always meticulous and methodical whilst constantly playing with the scale and positioning of pictures and words, the unmarked space is as important as the placing of the imagery. Over the years of developing my work, I came to an early conclusion that my workbooks acted as quite personal visual diaries, and I became interested in other people's relationships with books. By presenting my art in book form, I aim to create more intimate feelings compared to my much larger scaled 2D works. This has led to a collaborative book project, "me presents.... we present", which is ongoing and open to anyone and everyone. me presents is my own personal documentation and response to my surroundings. The intended connotation and link I create and re-create will have a totally different impact on each individual who may see my work.
