Crosshairs

May 10th - May 25th 2011

Artists: Amy Goring, Karen O Brien, Joshua Tennant

Red Wires second Greek residency took place on the Greek island of Kalymnos with a fine tuned cast of three RW'ers. Again set up by our International Department (Karen), the residency culminated in both new work and existing pieces in a Kalymnian hotel. Attracting around 40 people we had great feedback to all works- especially (again!), Amys driftwood leg- created on the first residency- it is always a hit.

Amys new work was 'The Balance of Pebble Plate' (above centre), again suing mostly found materials from Kalymnos, the piece was part earthly- part something from Star Trek, and held a delicate balance of materials. To continue to theme, amy also created a mini galaxy piece (below left).

Joshuas showed the final episode of The Eating Series (Eggs), a watercolour of a caught Kraken (below left), and a larger canvas showing the island of Talendos harbouring the Polyphemus cyclops. This was the beginnings of a series exploring a question- 'what if mythical creatures were around today?'

Karens showed her large series of tracings (below right) exploring peoples obsessions - primarily her own obsessions with a collection of kitsch items, and obsessing with drawing them. Her new work (below left) looked at the impact of climbing tourism on the residents of Kalymnos.
